A secluded, picturesque farm stay for couples in South West Somerset — vineyards, a wood-fired bath under apple trees, and (already) three proposals at the Lambing Shed.
Three proposals, two romantic cabins, and a quiet kind of magic
As late afternoon settles over Thornfalcon, the light turns golden over the fields, the shadows stretch across the vines and orchard, and somewhere under a ribbon of woodsmoke from the wood-fired bath, somebody might be asking a very important question.
When we were imagining Thornfalcon Winery & Press, we set out to create a special place nestled in nature, where everyone who came to stay could enjoy the best local produce, a glass of Thornfalcon wine or cider, and deeply relax in this beautiful corner of West Somerset. With three proposals in our first year, it’s a wonderful surprise how that magic has also inspired romance in the air.
Two spaces for two
Before it was a romantic hideaway, the Lambing Shed was home to generations of Somerset lambs. Today, it's a delightfully secluded cabin tucked amongst the apple trees in Thornfalcon’s cider orchard, with a wood-fired bath for two outside under the boughs.
The Vine Hut is our second romantic destination, looking up at the vines and Thorn Hill in the long grasses of the meadow, with your very own outdoor copper bathtub.
You can’t see another building from the door, the orchards and meadows are full of bird song and animal life, and life slows down – undisturbed time together for all those who stay.
A weekend away here tends to follow its own gentle choreography. You arrive on a Friday afternoon, drop your bags, open a bottle, light the bath early and ease into a slow, sunset evening. Saturday is whatever you'd like it to be - a circular walk up Thorn Hill, a long lunch somewhere quiet, a wood-fired sauna and swim in our two-acre lake, and the bath again under the stars. Sunday is for staying in bed, and not wanting to leave.
A lot of countryside stays advertise seclusion, and we deliver it. Our accommodation is spaced so that you don't see others unless you want to — no Wi-Fi or neighbouring lights, just the beauty of nature.
For the proposers and romantics: a quiet word
If you're thinking of asking someone to marry you here, we’d love to help you make it as special as possible - a bottle of our English Sparkling Wine chilled and waiting, wildflowers from the farm, a fire already laid – just let us know, we'll quietly help you make it perfect.
